Becoming a BeautiQueen


Anyone who knows me knows that I am not lacking confidence. I know I am awesome and amazing, and can do anything I set my mind to! Well almost anything. There has always been one thing that has stood in my way, or weigh, from truly being able to do anything. My weight. It sucks! I have always been in a battle with the scale, and often with those closest to me because of my weight. In general, I don’t think that is should have been as big of a deal as it has become in my life. Both my parents are adorable and in quite good health. The only relatives that I can really remember from my childhood that ever really had a weight problem are my paternal grandmother, and my favorite uncle, who, by the way, was so much fun that it wasn’t really something that I noticed until I got older! So I don’t really understand why weight has been such a big (no pun intended) thing in my life.

Over the next 100 days I will be reading the book 100 Days of Weight Loss by Linda Spangle and attempting to blog my experience as my journaling. I have found so far in my journey, the more accountability I have the more my 1st born tendency’s seem to kick in and I do what I say because I don’t want to let anyone down. If that is what it takes I am willing to do it!!
All this to say that I am finally going to do what I have always said I would do, lose weight. I know that this will be the most difficult thing that I will ever have to do in my life, but hey, I am awesome and amazing! And I would like to prove to myself, and others, that there really is nothing that I can’t do!!

Don't Be Ugly

One of the things that I remember most about my beautiful southern friend April is her saying "and she was just being so ugly", in reference to one of our acquaintances. Having grown up in California I had no idea what April was talking about when she said someone was "being ugly". You either were pretty or you were ugly, I didn't know either was an action!  She explained to me that "being ugly" meant that she was acting ugly, or not being a nice person. This comes to my mind sometimes when I am working with someone who is "being ugly" or when I am "being ugly". I hear April's sweet Alabama accented voice saying "don't be ugly".
Which then bring to mind the verse, Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things."
 
A true Beauty Queen is someone who isn't "being ugly", she is someone who does not just think on the things in Philippians 4:8, but also lives them daily.

How to Be a Beauty Queen
I found most this on wikiHow and thought it was fantastic!

1. Be a trend setter there's no point following everyone elses fashion! Be unique!
2. Be Beautiful*
3. Have good posture.
4. Smile and never scowl.
5. Looking good on the outside really is not enough to be a true beauty queen. Be happy and enjoy taking part.

*WARNING:Don't get obsessed with beauty it isn't every thing. You can be beautiful, but before you worry about your look worry about home work,  chores, and who you are on the INSIDE.


Helpful Tips for Being Beautiful!

  • Hot showers feel great, but they aren't great for your skin and hair. Take short, warm showers. Only wash and rinse your hair with cool/cold water.
  • Be very gentle and slow when you brush your hair, and never brush it when it's wet.
  • Do anything you can to get rid of acne. Take medication for it and wash your face twice daily.
  • Avoid the sun. Always always always use sunscreen of at least 15 SPF. The sun causes wrinkles and skin damage and may lead to skin cancer. Don't use tanning beds, either. Use a high-quality self-tanner or just let your skin be its natural, beautiful color.
  • Don't avoid makeup. Foundation, powder, blush and concealer on your face won't clog your pores if you remove your make up at night. Apply subtle amount.
  • Only wash your hair every other day.
  • Avoid hot rollers, irons, and blow dryers. If you use them make sure you apply right products to protect your hair
  • Never bite your nails! Also get a manicure and a pedicure every week. You can do it yourself to save money.
  • Take multi-vitamin supplements every day.
  • You need 8-10 glasses of water every day.
  • Always get plenty of sleep, at least 8 hours.
  • Wear a nice perfume.
  • Exfoliate your skin at the very least once a week.
  • Shape your eyebrows.
  • Be polite and kind to everyone. Rudeness is not beautiful.
